What you can gain as a volunteer

We believe volunteering provides many with an opportunity to deploy their talents and transferable skills as well as develop new skills to enhance their careers. The contributions of various skilled volunteers is a valuable asset to the successful running of our SJS Awareness UK.

Our current opportunities are…

Trustees

The Board of Trustees is legally and financially responsible for overseeing the running of the organisation as a whole. Stevens-Johnson syndrome is a life threatening condition and can be a life changing experience for many survivors and their families. Due to the rarity of this condition, many are left on their own struggling for support. As a member of the Board of Trustees, you are bringing your skills, knowledge and experience to ensure that SJS Awareness UK has a long term strategy and develops appropriate plans to achieve its objectives.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • make decisions about SJS Awareness UK’s objectives, policies and procedures
  • make sure that SJS Awareness UK is accountable to its members and to the community
  • make sure that SJS Awareness UK meets the needs of the people it was set up to support
  • making sure that money is spent properly and reassure any funders that decisions are being made by a number of people
  • make sure that SJS Awareness UK has the right resources - people, equipment, premises, insurances and money - to get on with its work
  • monitor how well SJS Awareness UK is doing its job
  • represent SJS Awareness UK at other meetings, forums etc
  • keep SJS Awareness UK within the law and provide a safe and healthy place for people to be in
  • promote SJS Awareness UK and its work

 

Steering Group Members

Members of our steering group must be passionate and willing to make a difference by sharing their honest opinions, contributing their ideas and skills needed to develop, promote and translate our objectives into activities that will meet the needs of our target group in each region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and oversee Regional Support Group
  • Facilitate Tele Support Group via our Tele-conference line
  • Plan and Coordinate awareness activities at the regional level
  • Represented those affected in the region
  • Represent Regional Support Group at National Meeting
  • Other duties that will improve our services
